Variation is one of the key aspects of any language, and no language can be described without taking it into consideration. Language variation can be studied in a variety of ways. For instance, variation can be observed in different situational and sociocultural contexts, different registers, modes, across different classes and genders, ethnic and age groups. This book is the short over view of Historical linguistics, which studies English language variation across time; in other words, it studies language from a diachronic perspective. /
